July 2011 – December 2011
Size: 18 months
Pattern: “Cloverfield Cardigan” by Vickie Howell, Petite Purls Spring 2011 issue
Yarn: Stitch.Rock.Love Sheep(ish): Robin’s Egg(ish) (2); Chartreuse(ish) (1); White(ish) (1); Olive(ish) (1)
If there is anything that I will associate with this cardigan, it’s that it was a testament to my procrastination. However, it was also the first time I’ve sewn buttons on something I’ve knit, so although I am embarrassed a bit, there’s still some pride involved!
Yes, this was meant to be a gift and I only finished it sometime last week. If the recipient wasn’t in the UK, that wouldn’t have been much of an issue. Also, it was meant to be a gift sent in time for her birthday, which was in November. I know, I’m terrible. However, the completed size is meant for an 18th month old, and it was only her first birthday, so really, I suppose that from the beginning I started this with my procrastination in mind! ;)
As my knitting tag indicates, I also started a number of other projects whilst I was working on this, so that couldn’t have helped in moving towards its completion.
I actually finished knitting, seaming, and weaving in the tails of the body in October, but didn’t buy the buttons until November, only to realize that I didn’t have white thread, then didn’t get that until December. It really is a wonder how I get anything done. But I’m done and this thing is ready to ship! I really do intend to that before the year ends. We’ll see.
The yarn itself is really soft and although some fibers come off quite a bit (which is to be expected as it is a roving yarn after all), I really love it. I’m a sucker for the fun colors too.
Please ignore the fact that I used the dark green for the bottom stripe in the care card. Hey, at least I remembered to include the spare button!

Oh my goodness that is just the most adorable thing ever! Love the finishing touch w/ the card & button. I don’t usually find baby clothes all that interesting but that is just too cute.
Aw, thank you!! For the most part, I feel ya on the baby clothes thing. It’s just that ever since ~becoming a knitter~ I’ve loved the idea of making a smaller sized garment that, for all intents and purposes, could be finished quickly– but we know how that went!
I think I may just make a hat or an itty-bitty scarf for her next year. haha
It turned out so beautifully, and I LOVE what you did with the card. Great job!
!!! Oh my goodness, thank you so much! *Excuse me while I go fangirl. I just love your work!* ♥
[…] Finished Object: Cloverfield Cardigan – While I’m proud that my first foray into knitting baby clothes was a success (that’s such a specific category- I’ve no intention to get obsessed with it! haha), I have fond memories of this post because Vickie Howell (the designer) not only saw the post but she also left a comment telling me she liked it!
