It’s been quite some time, no? This past month I’ve let myself get caught up in reading copious amounts of fantasy tales. I’m currently on George R. R. Martin’s A Clash of Kings, which I began in an effort to prepare for the second season of Game of Thrones– seeing as how I’m barely halfway and tonight was the second episode, it’s obvious how successful how that went. haha
This week’s Sunday Sounds is the perfect bridge between all thing’s geeky and fantastic music. “I’m The One That’s Cool” is the newest release for the webseries The Guild, and “geek anthem” is pretty much the perfect description. Beyond the humor, superb references, and catchy-as-hell chorus, “I’m The One That’s Cool” is just a solid rock song. (Jed Whedon, who wrote the music and co-wrote the lyrics, released History of Forgotten Things a few years ago and that is one beautiful album- laid back, elegant electronic effects, and a thoughtful solemnity to the lyrics. For anyone who likes The Postal Service and other sophisticated indie music, I implore you to listen to that album!)
“I’m The One That’s Cool” was not only made to promote The Guild, but also to inaugurate the youtube channel Geek and Sundry! I honestly have no words to express my love for the content, but especially for the ethos that network is promoting. From their website:
Premium YouTube channel Geek & Sundry features the best of indie geek culture and the internet’s foremost geek voices. Founded by the producers of the hit web series The Guild, Geek & Sundry offers a diverse lineup of shows that create a hub for fans of comedy, gaming, comics, music, and literature around the world.
Digital age FTW!
