Sunday Sounds: Chromatics, “Tick of the Clock” (“Drive” edit)

Music is so integral to a film. It’s essential to the storytelling because it sets the tone in ways that even the best mise en scéne cannot.

I saw the film Drive (2011) recently and while there are so many things I loved about it (Go! See it now!), most of which I can only express in fangirly and nonsensical ways, I’ll just focus on one aspect right now- the music. Particularly, this song.

This version (shortened for the soundtrack) of Chromatics‘ “Tick of the Clock” is so perfect for the film. It practically summarizes the film with its rise and fall, while the beat that lies throughout it creates such a wickedly unsettling tension.
